Andžejs Viļumsons
Andžejs Viļumsons is a Director of First Bilateral relations department (Eastern Partnership countries, Russia, Central Asia) at Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, a position he assumed in December 2020.
Mr. Viļumsons holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Latvia. He worked as a Deputy Head of the Latvian delegation for accession negotiations with NATO, in the years 2002 – 2003. He also served as a Director of Defence Policy and Planning Department at the Ministry of Defence of Latvia from 2003 to 2007. After that, he was a Deputy Permanent Representative of Latvia to NATO. In 2013 – 2016 he worked as a Counsellor (Financial and Legal aspects of EU’s CFSP/CSDP) of Deputy Permanent Representative to the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the EU at Permanent Representation of Latvia to the EU. From 2016 to 2020 he assumed the position of Permanent Representative of Latvia to the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the EU. In 2020 he also served as a Head of State Secretary’s Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia.
