Emmy van Deurzen

Director, New Europeans

Emmy van Deurzen is a Philosopher, Counselling Psychologist and Existential Psychotherapist, who has published fifteen books on existential and human issues. Her work has been translated into around twenty languages.  She is an international speaker and directs the Existential Academy in London, where she is also the principal of the New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, which is a post graduate college, offering masters and doctoral programmes with Middlesex University, where Emmy is a visiting professor. Emmy has chaired many professional bodies and she has been an outspoken activist for Europe, with New Europeans, of which she is one of the directors.

Amongst her books are the bestsellers Existential Psychotherapy and Counselling in Practice (3d edition 2012Psychotherapy and the Quest for Happiness (Sage, 2009) and Everyday Mysteries (2nd edition Routledge, 2010).  The second edition of Paradox and Passion in Psychotherapy appeared with Wiley in 2015.  Emmy is currently completing a book called ‘The Sweetness of Being’.
