Dirk Schuebel
Dirk Schuebel is a German national whose current responsibilities see him being the EU’s Special Envoy for the Eastern Partnership.
Before taking over this position in September 2022 he headed the EU’s Delegation in Belarus for three years since September 2019. From 2018 to 2019 Mr Schuebel headed the Russia division in the EEAS, preceded by chairing for five years, from 2013 to 2018, the Eastern Partnership bilateral division in the EEAS dealing with the EU’s bilateral relations with Ukraine, Belarus, the Republic of Moldova, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia. Prior to that, Mr Schuebel served as Ambassador and Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova from 2009 to 2013 following a diplomatic posting as Head of the Political, Press and Information Section at the EU Delegation to Ukraine and Belarus in Kyiv from early 2006 to 2009.
Mr Schuebel has previously held various positions within the European Commission and the German Foreign Ministry going back to 1993. In his time at the European institutions, he worked at the Commission’s DG Energy and Transport, DG Enlargement and DG Trade. Earlier in Mr Schuebel’s career at the German Foreign Ministry he specialised in international economic relations, foreign trade and foreign trade promotion.
