Mats Braun

Director, Institute of International Relations

Mats Braun is the Director of the IIR since May 2023. In his research, he devotes himself to regional integration (comparative regionalism), the European Union, global environmental politics, and Central and Eastern Europe. In 2017, he was named Associate Professor of Territorial Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. From 2010 to 2016 he served as a member of the Executive Council of the Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA). During the fall of 2015, he was a visiting scholar at the Cornell Institute for European Studies, Ithaca. From 2018-2022 he was a member of the Evaluation panel on Juridical and Political Science of the Czech Science Foundation. He worked for several years as Associate Professor at Södertörn University, Stockholm. He has also lectured at Dalarna University, Sweden, Charles University, and the Anglo-American University Prague. In 2022 he received a Jean Monnet Chair from the European Commission at the Metropolitan University Prague, where he currently lectures. At the same university, he was the head of the Department of International Relations and European Studies from 2016-2023.
